Over the last year and a half Northstar has put Smart Board Technology into eight of their classrooms. 

Smart technology allows for more student involvement with the lesson.  This hands on tool enhances the learning environment in the classroom.  The cost to bring this type of technology to our classrooms is over $30,000.00.  This was made possible by funds raised in our Auction, Golf Tournament and Title funding.  This is what some of our teachers have to say about their Smart Boards.

              I love having a Smart Board in my classroom and my students love it too. This interactive tool has allowed me and my students to reach far beyond the textbook. At the touch of a button my students and I can visualize any topic we are studying. Via the internet we can examine three dimensional cells, play a genetics game with Gregor Mendel, dissect a worm, and much, much more. Almost instantly I am able to answer questions I may not know the answer to. If a student has a question about how something looks or how it works I can find their answers on the internet. There is no more “I’ll find out the answer and let you know tomorrow.” Everyone wants to use the Smart Board, so it assures my students will be engaged and focused. It has been a wonderful asset to my classroom and I do not know how I lived without it.   

  

SMART board technology has revolutionized the teaching industry and we, at Northstar Christian Academy are proud to be a part of this movement.  We enjoy providing our students with current technology experiences and find that they are gaining knowledge that equips them with the necessary skills to be successful in life and continue on toward achieving their goals.

The SMART board allows us to design lessons that utilize the most current information.  In the English classroom, we can look at primary source documents to build a foundational understanding of a time period, we can visit the web site of an author from a novel we are reading, and even take a trip to the setting location using maps of today and yesterday.  As we explore these connections SMART technology provides us with the ability to add notes, highlight key points, and record data. 

            Additionally SMART technology assists in creating interactive slide shows.  It allows us to design presentations that are content specific and limited only by your own imagination.  Students can also tap into this creative tool for use in classroom presentations working alone or with a cooperative learning group.  SMART technology has provided teachers and students here at NCA with a magnificent teaching and learning tool!
